Constellation District Pinewood Derby Championship Download as iCal file

The District will be running the annual Pinewood Derby Championship on the morning of Saturday April 27th at 8:30AM in the gym at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Broomall. Each Pack can enter three cars, preferably your 1st, 2nd , and 3rd place finishers. Each participant will have their name and unit listed in the program and will receive a participation ribbon. Winners will receive trophies and will have their photographs taken for their local newspaper.

To offset the cost of the race and awards each participating unit will be asked to pay a $15 entrance fee that covers their three cars. Individual registration and payment are made online - Cubmasters should pass this information along to their Pack representatives.

  1. Alternate entrants that take the place of the top three finishers are permitted and can be determined by any means desired.

Following are the inspection points

  1. 1.The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.
  2. 2.The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
  3. 3.The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
  4. 4.The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
  5. 5.The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.
  6. 6.The wheel base of the car and the axle locations may not be altered from the ones provided with the kit.
  7. 7.The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired.
  8. 8.The wheels must be like those supplied with the kit. They may be replaced with the colored ones sold at the Scout shop, which are identical to the original ones in shape and size. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels.
  9. 9.The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated with dry lubricants only.
  10. 10.Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
  11. 11.The car must not ride on any type of springs.
  12. 12.The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
  13. 13.No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot, may be used.
