There are many more opportunities for volunteers to improve their skills and understanding of the Boy Scout program. Some are required before holding certain types of events.
BALOO Training on February 4th!
What is BALOO? Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a one-day training event that introduces leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack campout. At BALOO you will get helpful outdoor cooking tips with some recipes to boot. You will be shown an ideal campsite. You will play games to take back with you to your units. You will learn about BSA Camping Policies. Ultimately, you will walk away with a better understanding on how to have a successful outdoor program for your unit.

When: Saturday, February 4, 2011 8 am – 3:30 pm
Who: At least one member of your Pack should attend. This could be a: Cubmaster, Asst. Cubmaster, Committee Chair, Committee Member, Den Leader or a parent. The Boy Scouts of America National Policy is that there must be a BALOO certified adult planning and present at any pack-organized campout. A BALOO trained person must sign tour permits.
Cost: $9.00 per person. This fee will cover the cost of lunch and materials. Please register online by January 28, 2012

NYLT is an exciting, action packed program designed to provide youth members of the Boy scouts of America with Leadership skills and experience they can use in their home Units and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. NEW this year: opened to Venturing, male and female.
Through activities, presentations, challenging discussions, and audio-visual support, you will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give you the skills and confidence to lead well.
Through a wide range of activities, games, and adventures, participants will work and play together as they put into action the best that Scouting has to offer.

Philmont is the national training center at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. The training center offers a wide selection of 6-day courses, covering all aspects of Scouting operations, and generally training those who will bring the program back to train the rest of their unit.
This training lasts about 45 minutes and provides all the information you need to meet the minimum requirements for a climbing activity. This does not consist of any training or certifications in climbing, but provides the essential components of a safe outing.

Hazardous Weather planning and decision making regarding weather for a safe outing. Can be taken online at BSA Hazardous Weather
A leaders' meeting held in each district where leaders find information about upcoming district and council events and learn ways to improve the program. Most Roundtables will cover material based on participants' interest. Leaders can learn a new skill or get advice on how to solve a problem. Participation at Roundtables is required for some square knot awards.
Advanced training in leadership and team development, bringing together all programs - Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing. By pooling their ideas, sharing meaningful experiences, and learning from highly qualified instructors, participants will return to their home units with new skills and resources, greater confidence, and deeper dedication to deliver the values of Scouting.
This training includes approximately six days of instruction that are often held as two 3-day weekend sessions, followed by working on the goals the participant sets for him or herself. Each council organizes and schedules sessions as needed.

Sunday: AND June 2, 2012 starting at 8:00 AM on Saturday & ending by 4:30 PM on Monday.
NOTE–You must attend all sessions to be certified.
What is the cost? The cost is only $250.00, payable with your application -$50.00 is nonrefundable, unless the course needs to be cancelled. No refunds for No shows.
