Cradle of Liberty Council Camp Service Programs Musser, Treasure Island and Resica Falls Scout Reservations The Camping Committee has identified three areas in which we can channel the many responses of our volunteers who have expressed an interest in supporting our camp properties. Formally or informally, aspects of these three programs have been in operation, but it is our intent to expand the opportunities and increase their effectiveness. There have been many inquiries from the Scouters of the Cradle of Liberty Council and we hope these programs will highlight the best our Council has to offer. Program 1—Work Days At Camp Under the direction of the Unami Lodge, Order of the Arrow, the camping committee would like to encourage attendance at the work weekends and service days that they have scheduled over the next six months. All members of the Order of the Arrow are encouraged to be active in the Lodge and attend these events. Those Scouts and Scouters who are not members of the Order of the Arrow are also invited to attend the work days and the Saturdays of the work weekends. Please visit the calendar on the Unami Lodge website for the latest information on Service events. If you are interested in attending these events, please fill out the form. click here. As plans and specific projects are developed, we'll keep you informed. Program 2—"Adopt-A-Cabin" or "Adopt-A-Campsite" We need your help! There is plenty of work needed at ALL of our camps to keep the buildings, campsites and infrastructure in good condition. Many opportunities for individuals, troops and districts to help maintain our properties exist. We have cabins, pavilions, dining halls, swimming pools, storage buildings, shower houses, latrines and campsites spread out on nearly 6000 acres. We own and maintain many miles of roads and trails. In addition we own and maintain many miles of high voltage power lines and utility poles that must be kept clear of overgrowth. ADOPT-A-CABIN or SITE: A unit or district may adopt a cabin or troop lodge and become responsible for its long term care. “THE RULES”: • District or Unit uses the cabin at NO CHARGE on work days/weekends. • District or Unit may use the cabin at NO CHARGE up to 2 more weekends per calendar year as long as the “adoption” is in effect and active. • ALL work weekends and “free weekends” must be reserved in advance through the camping office. There is NO priority over previously reserved weekends by other units. Reservations may be made up to 1 year in advance. • The “Adoption” status will be reviewed and renewed annually. • All work must be of “workmanlike quality” and must meet local code where required. • All work must maintain the “Camp Standard” as to general appearance, quality and usability. All projects subject to approval by the Camp Ranger or Camping Director. (Colors, siding, roofing, materials etc. must be consistent within the cabin or site and continue to blend in with the outdoor environment) • NO STRUCTURAL MODIFICATIONS may be made without prior approval of the Council Camping and Properties Committee. BUILDING PERMITS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR STRUCTURAL AND/OR FOOTPRINT CHANGES. • Site must be left clean and safe for the next regular rental by other units. A cabin or site may only be removed from the rental schedule for major pre-approved projects and must be planned well in advance. • THERE IS NO OBLIGATION ON THE PART OF THE COUNCIL TO PROVIDE MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT OR TOOLS, THOUGH IF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT ARE AVAILABLE THEY MAY BE USED WITH PRIOR APPROVAL BY THE CAMP RANGER. HOW TO GET STARTED: Contact Ken Nygard, Camping Director at knygard@colbsa.org or 610-688-6900 X225. Each camp and site has specific needs and we will work with you individually to best coordinate our resources and schedules. Program 3—Major Projects From 2005 to 2007, under the leadership of Unami Lodge, Order of the Arrow members, council volunteers and members of the Council Staff completed the Unami Lodge Project at Resica Falls Scout Reservation. Unami Lodge at Resica Falls is a testament to the capabilities and dedication of the volunteer base in the Cradle of Liberty Council. As a blueprint for the future, the camping committee would like to explore and plan future projects at our camp properties. While the scope of Unami Lodge at Resica Falls was quite large, there are many projects that lend themselves to planning and completion by our council volunteers, under the direction and able assistance of our Camp Rangers. The camping committee hopes to have a preliminary list available in the near future. Please check the page for updates. In the meantime, if anyone is skilled in a specific trade, is associated with a company interesed in helping, has contacts regarding materials or construction services, click here . This list of manpower and assets will help us plan for future projects. |
