Program Update – May 2013

Thank you to all who attended our Pre-Camp Leaders Meeting last Monday! It was great to see many returning leaders, along with some new faces. Many leaders asked great questions, and here are some of the important things that were mentioned:

  1. 1.June Pre-Camp Meetings - UPDATED

Week 1-4 – Monday, June 3 – 7Pm at the Valley Forge Scout Office

Week 5-7 – Tuesday, June 4 – 7Pm at the Valley Forge Scout Office

*** If you cannot attend the night for your specific week, please feel free to attend the other night

  1. 2.Merit Badge Fees
    1. a.Electronics Merit Badge - $15
    2. b.Indian Lore Merit Badge - $15

  1. 3.Welding Merit Badge  - is limited to 15 Scouts a week. Scouts taking this badge should be vocationally-inclined. This will be on a first-come, first-served basis by signing-up online.

  1. 4.Dan Beard Schedule Improvements

The Dan Beard Schedule is a bit different this year, and allows for more flexibility on the part of the Scout. If a Scout wishes to spend the full time at Dan Beard and complete each Dan Beard Skill, he should take “Tools, Fire and Cooking” from 9-9:35, “Ropes and Orienteering” from 9:45-10:20, “Citizenship” from 10:30 to 11:05, “First Aid” from 11:15-11:50, “Dan Beard Swimming” from 2-2:50 and “Nature” from 3-3:50.

**Please Note: Dan Beard Swimming only covers the Tenderfoot through First Class Swimming Skills. If your Scouts wish to take Swimming Merit Badge, Sign them up for a morning Swimming Merit Badge Session.

  1. 5.Blue Cards Filled-out

We will still have Scouts turn in Blue Cards, but this year they will be turned in during your first class session. Please be sure to have them filled-out fully, including the troop number of the troop that you are attending camp with and Council so we can get them to the right person when they are being returned!

  1. 6.High Adventure Opportunities - Fawn Run and PaddleRama – If your Scouts want to take advantage of our Fawn Run or PaddleRama High Adventure opportunities, be sure to sign-up online in patrols. These are not designed to be activities for individual Scouts.

Paddle-Rama River Trip

Join us for a week-long trip of over 70 miles down the picturesque Delaware River. Scouts will camp-out at designated campsites along the river as they make the journey south from Damascus, PA to the Delaware Water Gap. During the trip, Scouts will be able to enjoy fun water activities, as well as work on requirements for the Whitewater Merit Badge. This is a great opportunity for Scouts that are looking for an exciting, outdoor experience and love the water!

Fawn Run Hiking Program

Fawn Run is a week-long hiking program that will take the Scouts on an adventure all over the Resica Falls Property. With 4600 acres, over 20 miles of trails and countless scenic overlooks, Resica Falls is the perfect place to spend a week hiking through the woods. With a Philmont-like style of staying at a different camp many nights, and having activities to do once you get to your campsite every day, Scouts are sure to want to come back for more!

**Please Note: the PaddleRama and Fawn Run trips are aimed at serving groups of Scouts. This is not a provisional scout activity.

A new addition this summer at Resica Falls will be the opportunity for units to experience our In-Site Dining! Units have the option to enjoy their meals delivered to their site, where you can eat in the peace and beauty of the outdoors. This is a great way to spend quality time with your unit. All meals are delivered on a set schedule, so you will eat at the same time as dining hall troops. All eating utensils and supplies are also delivered, so no extra preparation is needed. This method works well to have your meals and relax in your troop site.

An Added advantage for the In-Site Dining Units in 2013 is that you will enjoy the luxury of a new pavilion in each site. Click Here for an In-Site Dining FAQ Sheet to give more details of this program.

For our first year, we have the ability to serve 40 people per week in each of our two new campsites. We are offering this on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to contact Tracy Launders in our Camping Department at (484) 654-9213 to sign up for one of these new campsites.

Thank you again for taking the time to ensure that your troop will have a BLAST this summer, and we look forward to seeing you at Resica Falls!
